Whole School Evaluation
A Whole School Evaluation was completed during the first week of October. We thank the parents and pupils who responded to the questionnaires, and we congratulate all members of the school community on their input into ensuring that our school obtained an excellent report from the Inspectors. The full report will be published during the next few months on the Department of Education and Skills website, www.education.ie
The Sponsored Jog
The Jog was held on Friday, 26 September. At the time of writing, the amount received is down very significantly on last year, and this continues a trend of decreases over the past number of years. In light of this situation, it may be necessary to examine other means of fund-raising such as direct contributions because the level of resources and services to which the pupils are entitled cannot be maintained with the money which is raised from the Jog. For example, if the school enrols in the Mathletics programme, the cost is €6 per pupil. The cost of printing and stationery for 2013-14 was €5985.60.
After School Activities for 3rd to 6th Classes
In response to requests to provide after-schools activities which were not sports-related, a detailed list of activities was circulated to the pupils in 5th and 6th Classes recently. The first activity, Lego, has already commenced. It is intended to offer a similar range of activities for pupils in 3rd and 4th Classes, and the list will be circulated shortly.

Ms Rhona Kelly who has provided a counselling service for our pupils for the past number of years, was not in position to return to our school this year. We thank Rhona for her years of devoted support to our pupils and wish her well for the future. Ms Lisa Gannon will be providing a counselling service this year, and if pupils wish to avail of this service, a consent form is available on request at the school.
For some years, there has been a concern that preparation for Confirmation was nearly exclusively school-based. The Parish of St Colmcille’s, Swords, has developed a programme which commenced on Tuesday, 21 October 2014 with an Enrolment Ceremony. As part of the programme, parents and pupils will be invited to attend evening Mass on 2 Saturdays prior to Christmas and 2 other evening Masses after Christmas. There will also be a one-day retreat for the pupils. It is hoped that this programme will make the Sacrament of Confirmation more meaningful for the pupils and their families.
Sports Programme for 2014-15
The Sports Programme for the year is under review at present, and we are hoping to add hurling to the list of sporting activities.
Post Primary Transfer
With regard to St Finian’s and Fingal Community Colleges, application forms have been given to the pupils in 6th Class. Colaiste Choilm uses a booking system so it is important for parents to make application for their sons as soon as possible, irrespective of the class in which the boys are at present.
We thank the members of the Parents’ Association for their support and co-operation during the past year, and wish them well for the coming year. We urge parents to become actively involved in the Parents’ Association.
The Cake Sale will be held on Friday, 24 October. Details have already been circulated by the Parents’ Association.

Images of Swords
On 5 September 2014, Images of Swords, was re-published. This book which is priced at €10 would make an ideal present, and can be purchased from the School Secretary.
We thank all members of the school community for their support and co-operation and wish them well as we endeavour to do our very best for the pupils entrusted to our care.
