Congratulations and Best Wishes

To: Ms Cindy Hickey and her husband, Anthony on the birth of their daughter, Eve; to Ms Orla O’ Doherty and her husband, Barry, on the birth of their son, Shay

Thanks very much to the parents and pupils who contributed the sum of €5,082.22 to the Sponsored Jog. This represents a decrease of 14% on last year’s figure, and it may be necessary in the future to adopt a different approach to funding equipment and resources for the pupils.

Parents’ Association

Cake Sale

Very well done to the members of the Parents’ Association on the success of the Cake Sale. The amount realised was €980.00. Thanks very much to all who baked or bought the lovely confectionery which was on display. We urge parents to become involved in the Parents’ Association because the support which it provides the pupils and staff is invaluable and very much appreciated by all members of our school community.

The winning tickets in the Raffle will be drawn on Thursday, 18 December. There is still time to purchase a ticket and have a chance of winning one of the wonderful prizes.

Improvements to the School’s Infrastructure

The final stage of the present programme to improve the infra-structure of the school has been the refurbishment of the Pre-Fab. This work commenced during the summer vacation and was completed during the mid-term break. Thanks to the generosity of successive generations of parents and pupils, and the vision of the Board of Management, the school is well-equipped and resourced, and it is important at this juncture to maintain the levels to which our pupils have become accustomed.

Sporting Activities

The Soccer and Gaelic Football teams have commenced training in preparation for the competitive programme. This year, we will also be fielding a hurling team, and we extend our best wishes to the players and mentors. Well done to all involved with the cross-country teams on their performance in the recent events.

Other Co-Curricular Activities

This year, it has been possible to provide additional activities such as Lego, Art and Craft and Taekwondo for the pupils. We thank all who have made this possible, and there will be a further range of activities during the second term.

There has been a very good response from pupils and parents to this initiative. The contribution of €6 will enable pupils to access this program at home and in school by clicking on The subscription is valid until November 2015.

  • To the parents who have donated uniforms, tracksuits, books and flat-screen monitors, we extend our thanks
  • To Nicky Fitzgerald, Fingallians GAA for coaching the boys during the first term
  • To Niall Mc Guirk, Sports Development Officer, Fingal County Council for working with the boys in 6th Class and putting in place a sports programme for our younger pupils. The boys have also asked that Niall be thanked for sourcing the lovely jackets

Post Primary Transfer

Practically all of the pupils in 6th Class have now obtained places for the coming school year. Parents of pupils in other classes who wish to send their sons to Colaiste Choilm, should contact that school without delay because it operates a waiting list system. Places for Fingal Community College and St Finian’s Community College are allocated to pupils while they are in 6th Class.

Enrolment of Junior Infants for School Year 2015/2016

Parents are advised to collect application forms from the School Secretary and return completed form accompanied by a birth and baptismal certificate (if applicable) by Friday, 30 January 2015 at the latest.

Parent Teacher Meetings

The attendance at the recent Parent/Teacher meetings was very high, and indicative of the interest which many parents have shown consistently in the progress of their children.

Images of Swords

In September 2014, the second edition of the illustrated local history book, Images of Swords, was published. This book which is priced at €10 would make an ideal Christmas present, and can be purchased from the School Secretary.

No-Uniform Day

At this time of the year, the emphasis among our school community is on giving rather than on receiving, and the teachers, ancillary staff and pupils will be making contributions to the St Vincent de Paul Society. There will be a no-uniform day on Friday, 19 December. A voluntary contribution of €1 (or more) may be brought to school.
