February 2006

Post Primary Transfer

Congratulations to the pupils who sat the assessments for the post primary schools in the Swords area, and every good wish to those pupils who have still to sit assessment tests.  In view of the fact that Coláiste Choilm (CBS) operates a waiting list system, it is important for parents to register their son(s) if they wish them to attend that school. The other post primary schools (St Finians and Fingal Community Colleges) in the Swords area accept applications when the pupils are in 6th Class. If parents wish to send their sons to schools outside of Swords, it is necessary for parents themselves to make contact with these schools.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Congratulations to the pupils in Second Class who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday. They were a credit to themselves, their parents and their teachers.

Equality of Opportunity and Access

A draft policy document on Equality of Opportunity and Access has been drafted and it is now on the website at Comments and feedback from parents on this policy would be appreciated. Some hard copies are also available from Mrs M. Mc Gee, the School Secretary.

Appointment of Classroom Assistant

We welcome and wish well Mrs Theresa Ward who commenced duty as Classroom Assistant on Monday, 30 January 2006.

Sporting Activities

Gaelic Football and soccer trials have been held during the past fortnight. The coaches are very hopeful that the school teams will acquit themselves well. The Cross-Country teams continue to thrive.

Swimming

Swimming continues for the pupils in Third Class. We are very grateful to the parents who have assisted with supervision at the pool. Swimming is now an element of the primary school curriculum so it is essential that all pupils avail of this opportunity to be coached in the techniques of swimming.

40th Anniversary Commemoration

Work is proceeding on various activities to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of our school. It is intended to publish a Year Book and to organise an exhibition of the pupils’ art work. Past pupils are invited to share memories / photographs of their days at St Colmcille’s BNS. Initial contact may be made with Ms Angela Noonan or through the website at www.colmcilles.net

Infant Enrolment

Registration of pupils for places in the school in September 2006 has been  almost completed. If there are parents who wish to start their sons in school this year, they are advised to contact the Secretary at 8405132 as soon as possible because there is only a limited number of places available.

Mid-term Break

The mid- term break will be from Monday, 13 February to Friday 17 February inclusive. We hope that all members of our school community enjoy a safe and peaceful mid-term break.
