October 2004

Farewell

Mr Jimmy Byrne, Ms Carol Boylan and Ms Caroline Ni Dhuibhir transferred to different schools at the start of this school year. We thank them for their service in our school and wish them well as they embark on the next phase of their careers.

Welcome

We welcome Ms Cindy Hickey, Ms Maria Kildea, Ms Elma Rafferty, Ms Sinéad Maguire, Ms Annie Hickey and Ms Fiona Breen to our school.

We welcome the new pupils who have enrolled and wish them and their parents well.

Heating

Work on this phase of the heating system has now been completed. We hope that we will be successful in obtaining a grant to complete the work during the summer vacation of 2005.

General Parent Teacher Meetings

We thank the many parents who attended the meetings during September. Parents will be contacted as soon as the individual meetings have been organised.

Healthy Eating Policy

As a result of a review of this policy, it has been decided that fruit winders and cereal bars will be re-classified as treats. This change of policy will come into effect on Tuesday, 2 November 2004

Post Primary Transfer

Pupils who intend to transfer to Coláiste Choilm (CBS) at the end of Sixth Class should obtain application forms from Coláiste Choilm because they apply a waiting list policy with regard to the processing of applications. Fingal and St Community Colleges have already sent forms for pupils in 6th Classes in our school, and these forms should be returned directly to the schools in question. Application forms for any other post-primary schools should be obtained directly from the schools.

Educational Welfare Act and School Attendance

A significant number of our pupils (68) was absent for 20 or more days during the last school year.  The attention of all parents is drawn to the need for pupils to attend school regularly, and it is particularly important that family holidays and outings are arranged during official breaks from school and not during term time.

Sponsored Jog

Up to this point, there has been a very good response to the Sponsored Jog with slightly over €8,000 having been collected. The raffle for the vouchers will take place on Friday, 22 October 2004

  • First Communion: Saturday, 7 May at 11.00 a.m.
  • Confirmation: Thursday, 12 May at 11.00 a.m.

Other Dates

The next staff meeting will be at 1.30 p.m. on Thursday, 25 November. The mid-term break will commence on Monday, 25 October and pupils will return to school on Tuesday, 2 November.

  • To the Murphy family for providing a PC

Re-Cycling

Fingal County Council has advised the school that with effect from 1 January 2005, it will be necessary for the school to become involved in re-cycling. This may mean that arrangements may have to be made with regard to the disposal of foodstuffs /milk cartons etc. Parents will be informed as soon as additional information is obtained.

Thank you very much for your support and co-operation, and every good wish for a peaceful and productive year. Ní neart go cur le chéile.
