Tickets for the Christmas Raffle are on sale now. Tickets cost €2 each. A book of 10 tickets costs €20. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the secretary’s office.

Our sponsored Fun Run will take place on Tuesday, 17 October (weather permitting). The boys are asked to seek sponsorship for the run. All of the money collected will be put towards the cost of purchasing and maintaining school equipment, licences and the grounds. We are extremely grateful to parents/ guardians and the wider school community for their support in this fundraising effort.
As our Golden Jubilee celebrations draw to a close, we are delighted to announce the launch of our book ‘Celebrating 50 Years of St Colmcille’s B.N.S.’. This book was launched on Wednesday 21 June. There were many interesting stories told by our guest speaker on the night, Mr James Bennett. Mr Bennett joined the staff of our school in 1970, became Principal in 1980 and retired in 2015. In attendance on the night were current and past members of staff, including Mrs Josephine McCague and Mr Dan O’Reilly, both of whom were members of the teaching staff in 1966 when our school opened. Also in attendance were past pupils Declan Power and Kieran Duff who were pupils in 1966 as well as other past and present pupils, past and current members of our Board of Management, and members of the parental body.
The book is thematic in its layout. It opens with a brief history of the school and the changes and improvements to the buildings and grounds over the past 50 years. The next section includes interviews with past pupils from each of the five decades, as well as interviews with teachers from each of the five decades. The next section details the ancillary staff, student council and other groups within our school community. Then follows a comprehensive section covering the events and activities of the past 50 Years. The final section has class photographs featuring all of our current pupils and some of their views on our school.
This 80 page publication is filled with coloured photographs and is a fascinating read for anyone who has had an association with or interest in our school during its 50 Year history.

Our Fun Run will take place on Tuesday, 14 March (weather permitting). As we preparing to celebrate St Patrick’s Day on Friday, the boys are encouraged to wear some festive clothing, or their green school tracksuits for the Fun Run. All sponsorship cards and money should be returned to school this week. Many thanks to everyone who has supported our Fun Run. Go raibh maith agaibh!

On Wednesday 14th of December The Student Council held our first ever fundraising activity. We invited all the pupils of our school to attend a Movie Day in the PE hall. The boys all paid €2.50 and they got to watch a Christmas movie. Everybody also got a bag of treats.
It was a huge success! We raised €1081.95. We are so excited to put this money towards buying giant playground games for the Junior and Senior yards.
We would like to thank our Principal, Ms. Brangan and all the teachers for letting us hold this event.
We would also like to thank all of the pupils and parents who contributed so generously. Without your generosity it wouldn’t have been such a success. Everyone really enjoyed the films and had a great day.
We hope this is the first of many Student Council events.

We are running a Book Fair in the school hall this week. The boys are enjoying looking through the fantastic selection of books! Books are available to buy from as little as €1. There is also some stationery available. Many thanks to those who helped to organise this event.

This year the Mini Marathon takes place on Monday 1st June and we would be delighted if any parents, guardians, aunts, sisters etc. would be willing to take part in this event to raise funds for our school.
Each year the cost of running the school gets higher and higher and this fundraising opportunity is a great way to raise some seriously needed funds.
Registration for the Mini Marathon starts on February 11th next and will close on 17th April or when the maximum number of entries has been reached. You can apply online at www.vhiwomensminimarathon.ie or through the entry form printed in the Evening Herald on each Wednesday and Saturday from 11th February 2015. This event is for FEMALES only. Members of our Parents’ Association will be co-ordinating this event and t-shirts will be provided to those taking part.
