Mr. Pat McGuinness joined the staff of our school on the 1st of July 1974 and has spent his entire teaching career here. After 42 years of service to the school community of St. Colmcille’s BNS Pat is retiring this year and he will be greatly missed in the school.
Pat has always been very interested in the education of pupils with Special Educational Needs and all of the children who have been taught by Pat have benefitted from both his immense teaching skill and his caring nature.
Pat has also led the development of Information and Communications Technology in the school and leaves St. Colmcille’s BNS in great stead in terms of the hardware and software that is available to us for teaching and learning purposes. Pat’s influence in this area cannot be overstated and is very much appreciated as the school will continue to benefit from Pat’s efforts and vision for many years to come.
Pat has shown incredible commitment to our school throughout his career, he has been deputy principal for the last three years and has always been a wonderful colleague. We are very appreciative of the service that Pat has given to the pupils of St. Colmcille’s over the past 42 years.
Past and present pupils, parents, staff and the Board of Management join together in wishing you the very best of luck on the occasion of your retirement Pat. We wish you many years of happiness as you move forward to the next phase of your life we hope you find some personal time for relaxation after your lifetime of giving to others in our school community.
We, the school community of St Colmcille’s BNS have learned of the passing of Mr John Taylor. He became a Governor in 1967 in succession to his late father, Richard. He served as Governor until the Board was dissolved in 2014. He had a great sense of community and was always interested in the development of St Colmcille’s BNS. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
The boys from 3rd – 6th Class had a Sports Day yesterday. The weather held up long enough for a really enjoyable day. The boys from J.I. – 2nd Class will have their turn today. We hope that they all have a great day too!
We were delighted to welcome Archbishop Diarmuid Martin to the school on Monday 13th June on the occasion of our Golden Jubilee Anniversary.
Archbishop Martin was welcomed to the school by Chairperson of the Board of Management Mrs. Veronica McDermott after which His Grace conducted a prayer and blessing service in the PE Hall. Archbishop Martin visited a number of classrooms around the school before joining the staff, Board of Management and Parents’ Association members for lunch with complimentary refreshments provided by our local SuperValu.
It was a great privilege for Archbishop Martin to visit and bless our school and we appreciate that His Grace was so generous with his time in meeting and conversing with so many of our pupils.
The Artists of the Month for June are John Lowrie Morrison (Junior Classes) and Mildred Anne Butler (Senior Classes). The boys will study these artists and some of their works. Prints of some of the artists’ more famous works will be hanging on the display boards opposite Room 9.
