St.Colmcille’s beat Rush BNS 3-2 in their first league match of the year. Our striker Callum Newman scored two goals and midfielder Sean Roughan also got on the score sheet. Our keeper Jack Dolan made a vital stop to go in at half time three goals up. Shortly after half time, Rush scored through a free kick from just outside the box. Moments later, St.Colmcille’s got a corner and our full back Jack Tynan hit the woodwork with a superb header which rattled off the cross bar. A corner to Rush soon followed and an unlucky deflection off James Doyle saw the ball trickle into the back of the net to leave only one goal between the sides early in the second half. Midfielder Jack Doyle then played a great through ball to substitute striker Eoghan Leahy, but unfortunately it was well saved. With ten minutes remaining and with the away side under increasing pressure, keeper Jack Dolan made a superb save to keep St.Colmcille’s with their noses in front. With almost the final kick of the game, Rush hit the post. The final whistle soon blew and with it came a collective sigh of relief from the sideline.
