The school will be closed next week (Monday 27th – Friday 31st October) and will re-open on Monday 3rd November at 8:50am. We wish you all a very happy and safe mid-term break.
We will be starting an 8 week course of Tae-Kwon-do classes for some of our boys in 3rd & 4th Classes. Classes will commence on Thursday November 6th after school from 2.35 to 3.15 p.m. in the P.E. Hall

There will be no charge for the classes as the school will cover the cost of the tutor. Boys from 3rd & 4th Classes will receive a note with further information.
We are running an afterschool programme for some of our 5th and 6th class boys every Tuesday from 2.30pm until approximately 4pm commencing October 7th. Each programme will run for 5 weeks.
Below is a list of activities and dates for the programme.
Lego Programme – Machines and Mechanisms
The boys will develop Lego projects over the 5 weeks using Science, Technology, Engineering, Computer Science and Maths skills to aid them. Lego education is designed to equip students with real life skills such as communication, collaboration and creative problem solving as well as being great fun!
October 7th, 14th, 21st, November 4th, 11th.
Arts & Crafts
The concept of each class is to RECYCLE and RE-USE. The boys will be encouraged to use their hands and imaginations to produce something themselves with the use of tools/equipment like hammers, saws, battery operated drills, tape measures, sandpaper and glue. The students will use a variety of recycled materials such as timber, old furniture, pallets, roof and wall tiles.
November 18th, 25th, December 2nd, 9th, 16th.
African Drumming Programme – Jabba Jabba Jembe
The Drum and percussion workshops will provide insight into the cultural back ground of the instruments and their use in traditional music. During a workshop, the children can learn about the different techniques used to produce different sounds and rhythms with many instruments.
January 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, February 3rd.
The boys will take part in 5 weeks of drama workshops with a performance that the boys will all take part in at the end of the programme. Parents are invited to come along to this in the school hall. Full details to be confirmed closer to the date.
February 10th, 24th, March 3rd, 10th, 24th.
The boys will participate in a hands on 5 week cookery course where they will learn to cook healthy nutritious meals suitable for all the family.
April 14th, 21st, 28th, May 5th,12th.
Our school will be taking part in a programme called Super Troopers, an initiative which is sponsored by Laya Healthcare. The aim of this programme is to encourage children to be more active.
Before the programme begins, parents are asked to complete a survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/supertroopersbaseline. The survey will be used to set a baseline and compare with activity levels later in the year. We hope that you will support this initiative and take 5 minutes to complete the survey.
The programme will begin in our school on Monday, 4 November 2014.
The process of updating and revising the Stay Safe programme for primary schools is well advanced at this stage and a new programme should be ready for schools by September 2015. A Whole School Evaluation was completed during the first week of October. We thank the parents and pupils who responded to the questionnaires, and we congratulate all members of the school community for their input into ensuring that our school obtained an excellent report from the Inspectors. In response to requests to provide after-schools activities which were not sports-related, a detailed list of activities was circulated to the pupils in 5th and 6th Classes recently. The first activity, Lego, has already commenced. It is intended to offer a similar range of activities for pupils in 3rd and 4th Classes, and the list will be circulated shortly.
